Deep drawing
Deep-drawing stamping is a metal stamping process used to form various hollow axisymmetric components from metal plates. This form of metal stamping involves applying a punching force to the metal plate so that it is drawn into the cavity in the radial direction. First, the metal plate is placed on the forming mold. The sheet is fixed in place at the end by the pressure applied by the blank holder. Then, an axial force is applied to the metal plate by a mechanical punching tool, deforming the workpiece and flowing into the mold cavity to produce the desired shape.
Almost all manufacturing industries have the potential to benefit from the deep drawing manufacturing process. This technology may be most useful for manufacturing small stamped parts such as electronic caps, housings and component housings. However, products of various shapes and sizes can be produced economically through this process, including items such as aluminum cans, cookware, and kitchen sinks. In mass production, deep drawing is particularly advantageous, because as the number of units increases, the unit cost will be greatly reduced: once the mold is created, the mold production process can continue with little downtime or maintenance time.
