Deep drawing metal stamping process
The deep drawing metal stamping process is a process performed in sheet metal forming through the mechanical action of the punch. Under uniform hydrostatic pressure, a flat metal plate blank is formed on a single rigid shape-defining tool half through a flexible rubber diaphragm.
Regardless of the thickness of the sheet or the complexity of the tool (including undercuts), the process will produce scratch-free parts. The higher molding pressure can ensure that the parts are directly compressed from the press, with little or no secondary manual work.
When the depth of the drawn part exceeds its diameter, the process is considered to be deeper. This is achieved by redrawing the parts through a series of molds.
The flange area (the sheet metal in the mold shoulder area) is subjected to radial tensile stress and tangential compressive stress due to material retention characteristics.
These compressive stresses, hoop stresses can cause flange wrinkles. These wrinkles can be prevented by using a blank holder whose function is to facilitate controlled material flow into the mold radius.
